100 Artists from
Israel and all over the world present their work in the “Souvenir art”
exhibition in the Venice Biennale.
The opening of the
exhibition is on June 2009 in "Scala Mata" gallery located in the
Jewish Getto in Venice. The theme of the exhibition is memory, represented in
the form of souvenirs as envisioned and designed individually by each
artist.
The exhibition is a
part of the project “Detournement” included officially in the Biennale events. The
exhibition is initiated and organized by Mr. Doron Polak and Mrs. Esti Drori, two
Israeli curators who cooperated with curators from New York, Stephan Apichola
Hichcock- curator of Fordham University in New York, and Ian van Fonce- curator
of the Bloomberg collection in New York.
A variety of well
known artists take part in the project, such as: Dany Karavan, Richard Veshcko,
Agnes Denis, Sol Levit, Josef Dadon, Uri de-Beer, Joshua Noyshteinn, Keren Spilsher,
Regina Frank. The Souvenirs produced by
the artists will be sold at many of the colorful souvenir stands spread around in
Venice canals and alleys; they have become the informal symbol of Venice.
